So, I'm sure this happened to many of you, but today I lost a dress that I had been eyeing on Etsy for a week or so now, that I should've just broke down and bought it!
(This is probably even a worse feeling with eBay when you're bidding for something and you lose it!)
For months I have been searching with a 40s dress in a cute fabric with just the little details that this one had, and when I found it, I said in my head "this is the dress!" But it was a pretty small size but I thought that maybe I could one day squeeze into it. Maybe I'm better off without it, but I still kinda wish that I'd' gone ahead and bought it.
Of course this happened before, but I've never been so disappointed...
What vintage items have you girls loved and lost? ;)

oh, I hate that feeling!
ReplyDeleteThe item that I lost...well, it might still be for sale, but the hips are far too small..it's a vintage hand-knit skirt and sweater set on etsy in light blue wool..it's gorgeous.
I hope you find another dress that's just as beautiful!
such as shame, the print on it is lovely. I find myself getting quite competative on particular items when I want them.
ReplyDeleteOh no, I'm sorry. I've really only had one ebay experience and gave up when the bidding went over 30 dollars...the dress sold for almost 60. I just don't have that competitive edge in me, I guess:) I know what you mean though. I hate it when I talk myself out of something, and then go back to a thrift or vintage store only to find that someone else snapped it up. Don't worry, you'll find another wonderful dress!
ReplyDeleteOh my, that really is a delightfully pretty dress, I'm very sorry that it got away from you, honey.
ReplyDeleteI think your point about etsy items that you've been eying sell before you decide to/ can raise the funds to/etc buy them being even more devastating than losing an eBay auction has a lot of truth to it. With etsy it's like you say to yourself "had I just bought it on the spot, it would have been mine", and that is very frustrating! But with eBay you can rationalize it by saying that the price jumped beyond your range (if such is the case), and you don't end up feeling quite as bad then.
I'm sure another amazing dress (in the right size) will come along before you know it, sweetie!
Big hugs (& tons of understanding!),
♥ Jessica
Oh goodness, I think we've all been there! I've lost out on so many things! A vintage sterling lily of the valley brooch, embroidered opera length gloves, dresses, shoes, handbags. Most of these happened in the course of a bidding war on Ebay and there was just someone who was willing to go higher than me. It's always so infuriating!!
ReplyDeleteOh this has happened to me so many times! It is an awful feeling!! I am certain you will find a dress you love just as much though! :)
ReplyDeleteI've been there, too! The plus side is that you now have a visual of the exact sort of dress to look for in the future. I just know you'll find another dress that will be even more perfect than the one that got away. You just can't visualize it yet, but trust me...

I know that is so irritating! I just tell myself I will find something else to love in the future. I once got into a bidding war over a vintage purse on ebay. I HAD to have it, I knew I would never see another like it (and I haven't in many years of looking) but I realized at about $100 it was a lost cause and gave up!
ReplyDeleteThe dress is gorgeous ... sorry you missed out.
ReplyDeleteI was eyeing an 50's Alfred Shaheen sarong dress for a couple of months ... I desperately wanted it but it was $500 ... on the day I finally bit the bullet and just decided to buy it, someone had beaten me to the punch!
I'll have my fingers and toes crossed for you.
Aww thats such a shame, sorry that you missed out. Just the other day I was bidding on some fabric that has now been discontinued, the price kept going up and up, way over how much it would cost originally. At the last few seconds I put in a bid and I didnt get it in quick enough so it sold for £1.00 less than I was going to pay. I was Gutted! X
ReplyDeleteThanks girls for your sympathy in regards to the dress I let get away ;) I'm sorry to hear that some of you have had equally sad lost vintage pieces.
ReplyDeleteI'm really glad I haven't gotten into a bidding war on Ebay like some of you guys, that would be a sad loss, although losing stuff on Etsy because of indecision is quite bad too.
owww i hate hate HATE that feeling =/ i get it like 90% of the times i shop at ebay xD
ReplyDeleteAhhhhhhh, that happens to me all the time. I need to learn to pull the trigger faster too!
ReplyDeletetoo bad, that's one adorable dress!
ReplyDeleteI once figured out that my friend and I were unknowingly bidding on the same shoes on ebay. She won! I do regret it when I see her in those gold heeels...
oh how funny! i was ALSO watching that dress on ebay! seems we both lost out! :(
