First of all, I would to thank you all who responded to my book/movie post, I'm happy that you enjoyed it and was pleased to find that I got some really good recommendations for books in return. If you girls read any of the books I recommended I would love to hear from you to see what you thought!
I'm sorry that I haven't posted in a bit. I had a busy but uninspired weekend and now I've been hit with a stupid cold. I'm not even all that sick, it is just making me lazy ;)
But being sick has made me want to curl up and read, and for some reason I was thinking about one of my favorite books as a girl, The Secret Garden and thought it would fun to do a Secret Garden inspired post. I just love the fashion of that era, so I always enjoy watching the movie versions of the book as well. It makes me want to move out to an old English mansion.
The movie screenshots are from a 1993 version of The Secret Garden. I always wanted the clothes that Mary wears in the movie, so I guess I loved vintage back then even if I didn't realize it.

I've really always loved that version of the movie too! That and "The Little Princess" were my two favourites when I was a kid and I always wanted to dress up like both the girls in those movies!
ReplyDeleteI like this post a lot! You should definitely do an outfit post inspired by that film!
I always watched the Hallmark version of the Secret Garden when I was little, there was a time there when I watched it almost everyday. I think the tape got warped haha!
ReplyDeleteSecret Garden was one of my favorite books, too. Right up there with Little Women and Roller Skates, etc. Still love them all!
ReplyDeleteHope you are feeling better soon, colds are no fun.
Hi sweet dear, I'm very sorry to hear that you've been struck with a cold this week :( That's certainly no fun at all! I hope you'll be on the mend soon!
ReplyDeleteI adored the Secret Garden (book) when I was a child, but you know what, I don't think I've ever seen the movie. I will have to add it to the "must see" film list.
Thank you deeply for your helpful and caring comment on my nickel-free bobby pin post. I really appreciate great idea about brass pins, I'll be doing a thorough search for them later today. Awesome idea!
Healing hugs & wishes for as lovely as day as possible!
♥ Jessica
Beautiful photos! I REALLY need to watch this movie...I am ashamed I haven't before!
ReplyDeleteI love this movie! I almost bought this "set" at Target that has a bunch of other children's movies I liked all on one disc for $9.99 (The Secret Garden was on it as well as The Neverending Story, another favorite)
ReplyDeleteI loooooove the secret garden, you've made me want to go home read the book and then watch the movie!! Another of my lazy day secrets is anne of green gables :)

ReplyDeletea couple years ago, this movie and "a little princess" came out in a dvd set. i watched both in one night and dreamt of living in lace and ribbons.

ReplyDeleteGorgeous post, my dear!!
Meaghan - A Little Princess was definitely another one of my favorite movies too. The most recent version that came out when I was younger was so lovely and the clothes, sets, etc. were gorgeous. A outfit post inspired by either is definitely a good idea.
ReplyDeleteMs.B - I've seen that version as well and it's so good. I definitely warped the tapes of several movies I loved a little too much when I was young as well.
Lidian- Thanks so much for your get well wishes, you're so sweet. I'm feeling much better at last. I just love Little Women as well, such a great book.

AdoreVintage - That set sounds really great and such a good price too! I don't think I would have resisted purchasing it ;)
ReplyDeletePretty Little Pictures - The Secret Garden is so great isn't it. I adore Anne of Green Gables as well, both the book and the mini series they made are wonderful!
Kristin - It really is a great movie isn't it? And the book is definitely a classic for a good reason.
Toosdai - The sets and clothing in both those movies are so great aren't they? I dreamed of having clothing like the girls wear in both movies when I was young!
Aya - Thanks for your comment dear :) I'm glad to see that others appreciate the Secret Garden as well, it's such a lovely movie!
Such lovely pictures remind me of the delights I use to have in watching this film when I was a little girl! I was so lucky to be able to find it in a supermarket going so cheap the other year. Its a perfect film to spend and afternoon watching!
ReplyDeleteGreat blog too! x
OOO great minds do think alike! I actually recorded the movie on TV and got all nostalgic, LOL. I always dreamed of finding my own secret garden, unfortunately I was never much of a gardener as I was born with a stubborn black thumb and deathly afraid of worms :(
ReplyDeleteThe Secret Garden is in my top 10 movies. Even now I can't get enough of it. Mary was fascinating and the house, the land, I really wanted to be a girl orphaned in India and set to England to live at my Uncle's crazy mansion. It's perfect.
