I realized as I was looking through images at some of the fashion, that the costume designer for this movie was the brilliant Edith Head, whose lovely work can be seen in countless movies, including many of the Hitchcock movies.
So, for a bit of weekend inspiration, I thought I'd leave with some of my favorites from her work, including the exquisite fashion from "Rear Window" with the stylish and beautiful Grace Kelly.
(This suit is a lovely mint green, not beige as it looks in this image, but I couldn't find any photos where the color was true.)
(Such a gorgeous dress)
(The most famous dress from the movie)
(Barbara Stanwyck in "Double Indemnity")
Not the greatest picture of it, but I love this dress from "A Place in the Sun" designed by Edith Head.
Hope you enjoy all this gorgeous fashion. Have a lovely weekend :)
(And if I'm feeling brave, I think I will have my first outfit post this coming week)

I LOVE Edith Head's work, She was a master at her job.
ReplyDeleteRear Window fashions were beautiful, I love the bracelet Kelly wears in this movie too.
Beautiful pictures,
xxx
ps yes go for the outfit post :)
Edith Head's designs are fabulous! Can't wait to see your outfit post!
ReplyDeleteEdith was such an original, her work will be just as brilliant (if not more so) in a 100 years from now as the moment she first created the styles that helped to define the golden age of Hollywood. Fantastic post, honey!
ReplyDeleteBig hugs & joyful weekend wishes,
♥ Jessica
Dustjacket Attic - She was definitely a master at her job to be sure! I can't believe I forgot to mention the bracelet in the post, you can sort of see it in the one picture. The second I saw in the movie it caught my eye!
ReplyDeleteMaggi - Her designs are fabulous indeed! :) And thanks, hope you will enjoy my outfit post.

Edith Head, as well as Adrian, are two top Golden Hollywood designers that made the stars they dressed feel and look absolutely fantastic. Great images !
ReplyDeletewe were actually talking about needing to see this film just the other day when we were going through the IMDB top 250 films. I'll make it a priority now!
ReplyDeleteThese are simply gorgeous :) And I haven't gotten round to emailing back, but thank you so much for the pumpkin pie recipe :) I can't wait to try it out. Unfortunately I'm gluten free so need to make my own pastry, but I have a great recipe for it ;)
ReplyDeleteI love the overnight case Grace Kelly uses in Rear Window. A brilliant, timeless film. The beautiful clothese are an added bonus.

oh i die! so glamourous. and rear window is a wonderful movie, but i'm a sucker for most hitchcock! whenever i see such beautiful images like this, it really renews and reinforces my love of vintage!
ReplyDeleteTo be able to go back in time and get dolled up in one of those gorgeous frocks. Sigh. The tulle skirt is killing me!!!
ReplyDeleteTCM is seriously the best channel ever. Grace Kelly always strikes me as rather cold, but very pretty. I LOVE Barbra Stanwyck; isn't her hair different in Double Indemnity?
ReplyDeleteBea - Thanks so much, you're so sweet :) And yes, isn't Audrey's oscar dress stunning? It's so simple and elegant.
ReplyDeleteDiva - So glad that you enjoyed the pictures.
Oranges and Apples - Glad I inspired you to watch this film sooner rather than later ;) It's so great, and the fabulous clothes just make it even better.
Pretty Little Pictures - I'm happy you enjoyed the pictures. Glad that you got the recipe, hope it works out well for you!
Louise - Yes, I adore her overnight case as well. I should have tried to hunt down a picture of that and the one gorgeous bracelet she wears as they are amazing pieces themselves.
Stéphanie - I'm glad you enjoyed these pictures :)
calivintage - I love all Hitchcock as well, such a talented man. And the ladies in his movies are all dressed gorgeously, such inspiration to go out and buy more vintage, I agree!
Kristin - I love the dress with the tulle skirt as well. Doesn't it look like so much fun to wear? It would make me feel so glamourous.
Rebecca - TCM is definitely the greatest channel ever! And yes I agree, I don't know much about Grace Kelly, but she does look as though she'd be a bit cold. And yes, Barbara Stanwycks hair is a bit different in Double Indemnity than in this picture, when I was hunting for picture though that's where it credited this picture to.
I love Barbara! and these all beautiful photos too, generally :) Mint dress is also one of my favorite wishlist item... should really find the right moment to steal any and lock them in my closet!
ReplyDeleteps : how are you? i've been away quite a long and missing you a lot, dear Lizzy! <3
Clara - You're so sweet! I've missed you too, I was so happy to see your comment on my blog, shortly after I left a comment on yours! ;)
