This listing for this photo on Etsy describes it is as hauntingly beautiful, and I couldn't agree more. She looks so sad to have him leaving her. I've seen few old pictures like this filled with so much emotion. I may have to buy this one.
A much happier looking couple, I love the little bow in her hair.
I really love the wartime ads for women's work on the homefront. I'd love to own from back then one day.
This would have to be one of the coolest things I've found by far. It's a WWII nurse's uniform, and it has the woman who owned it's names stitched inside. It really makes one think about the things she saw and the stories she would have to tell.
Happy Monday everyone :)

I'm w/ya on the 1940s, it's one of my fav. eras as well! I love the old 40s photos that have just a little color in the lips, cheeks etc. I say go ahead & collect them ;-)
ReplyDeleteI too love the 1940's! Not only was the fashion great, but our country really went through a great transformation during this time as well!
ReplyDeleteI have this scan of a really cool 40's photo of a couple at a JP office to get married, I was going to use it on my elopement announcements but didn't. I need to send it to you.
Great photos and ads!
Happy Monday!
xoxo
The first photo is so sad, the look on her face. Seem's to Say , She doesn't know if she will ever see him again...
ReplyDeleteCount me amongst the die-hard forties fans, too! I agree entirely with you about the steadfastness and wisdom of that generation. Life for most in the 40s was not easy or idyllic, but I believe many people were content with their lives in a way that a lot today's generation couldn't even imagine being. I would love to wake up and fine myself in the 40s, I'm sure it would be a truly eye-opening experience.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing these touching, wonderful snapshots and other vintage images with us!
Big hugs & joyful Monday wishes,
♥ Jessica
I love the 40s, it is so romanticized for us, I think.
ReplyDeleteYou definitely should collect old photographs, I don't find it creepy at all. One of my most prized possessions is an album I purchased in Budapest of a couple's trip to France from Hungary right after the war ended. The album has side notes written in Hungarian, German, and French along the sides.
It's kind of nice imagining the story behind the photos, that those people lived once upon a time and make their imprint in the world. :)
Wow, those are great pictures. I love that first one, it really is haunting!
ReplyDeleteI just love those posters. That first picture is so sad, so much emotion in it. I can see why you'd want to buy it, it is so haunting.

I was touched by the "off to war" picture too! So moving. I always love the Rosie the Riveter posters! So empowering.
ReplyDeleteThat first picture is so haunting--it epitomizes what so many must have felt when their loved ones went of to war.
ReplyDeleteI love looking at old photos; it always makes me sad to see them for sale in antique shops. They are the last vestiges of people who have been forgotten; I always wonder who they were and what their life was like.
The forties are so magical. Old photographs are so beautiful and I can never get tired of looking at them. The ones above are extra beautiful. & the WWII nurse uniform is pretty cool!
