So, it's been fairly hot lately and it has been making me only want to wear skirts and dresses (I haven't worn shorts in years, due to a love hate relationship with my thighs) but I realized how sorely lacking I am in cute sundresses. I have a very specific idea of what style I want, but haven't seen it yet :(
I think I would enjoy the summer weather far more if I had one. (Or maybe I'm just telling myself that to justify buying more than I should be ;) )
That's not to say that there aren't plenty of other cute tempting options out there, and I thought would be fun to share a few of the adorable ones out there!
I love the 50's style sundresses, but due to being on the short side I don't think some of the ones with the longer skirts do much for me. I sometimes end up on the dumpy looking side...
I usually steer away from 80's clothing at all costs, but every so often I admit that something from that decade does catch my eye. (And some 80's items are inspired by the 40's and 50's) I've been really draw to florals recently and this low back sundress from the 80's is just so fun isn't it?
This green is so pretty, love this one :)
So, hope you guys enjoyed these! What is your ideal sundress or summer outfit?

Cute post! I love the little green dress
ReplyDeleteI adore sundress and have been buying them like crazy on EBay and Etsy. I will have the one I am wearing today posted later. I too am short (5'3") but I like longer skirts/dresses. I guess they always made me feel feminine. Plus I can wear heels to lessen the 'dumpy' affect. I like the green one and the blue one seen above. You can run to your local fabric store and buy ribbons to use as belt which enhance your figure.
ReplyDeleteThanks doll,
The Glamorous Housewife
Amanda - Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it :)
ReplyDeleteThe Glamorous Housewife - You're right, heels would make up for any dumpy effect, never thought about that.
And thank you so much for the tip, ribbons as belts are so cute and I never thought about using them to make a dress more flattering, thanks dear!
sundresses are a girls best friend, for sure! I am particularly fanatical about 1940s ones (no surprise there)...more A-line than the flouncier New Look 50s ones, though as I see from above, those can be achingly cute too. Hey, if you are worried about length, would you be open to getting your dresses hemmed? This might open you up to a whole new world of possibilities?
ReplyDeleteLove love love that first dress. Sundresses are my favorite things to wear in the summer. SO much cooler than shorts.
ReplyDeleteI saw in your profile that you live in Illinois-- are you anywhere near Chicago? I live in the Ukrainian Village... Anyways, I've added a link to your blog on mine (thriftaholic.net)
ReplyDeleteSuch pretty dresses! I like the print on the floral one a lot too, and agree with you that sometimes a certain eighties dress or pattern was actually strikingly lovely.
ReplyDeleteI shun shorts too, so I can totally relate (hate my shapeless knees, other people tell me they're fine/normal, but I think they're ugly). In the summer I live in sundresses, skirts and capris, all of which hit below the knee ;)
Best of luck in your search for some lovely summer dresses!
♥ Jessica
LandGirlontheHomefront - Yes, I show 50s ones in this post, but I'm particular to the 40s A-line ones myself. And you're right, I never really thought about hemming! I guess I just tend to be the impatient type who wants to wear my new purchases right away so I hadn't thought of it ;)
ReplyDeleteKristen - Yes, sundresses are so lovely aren't they! Definitely better than shorts!
Leilani - I do in fact live fairly close to Chicago, though someday I would love to actually live in the city. Do you have good places you like to get vintage in Chicago, I haven't had much luck? :(
Jessica - Yes, the 80s can be suprisingly pretty sometimes ;) Sundresses, skirts, and capris are definitely all my friends as well!
That is a great old photo and the dresses are lovely, esp the green one. I try to look for ones just below knee length, which is really tough - they are really hard to find at that length (not at my secondhand stores anyway)...I look awful if they are short OR long1 ;) Mostly I do stick to capris and cropped pant things, though.
