Sew Sew

I was hoping to be able to show you gals my new vintage dress that I recently purchased, but alas it didn't come in the mail yesterday like I thought it would. That means another day of stalking the mailman and peeking out at the mailbox every half hour ;)

But in the mean time I can talk about my latest (well first!) project. I've sewn a couple of easy things (hems on pants, curtains, buttons, etc.) but I am no skilled seamstress that is for sure, so I thought I'd start out with something on the easier side, like a skirt. Here's a couple of the patterns that I like. Not sure what one I like best. Then again by the time I get around to buying a pattern I'll have changed my mind completely. And I may be better off starting with a modern pattern with a vintage look.

What do you ladies think?

Oh, and look at this super unique pattern I found for a 40s dress. It's completely knitted!!! Maybe I should do that instead, as I actually am a fairly experienced knitter.

  1. That McCall's pattern is so lovely! I would want several!

  2. I really like both of them, but for different reasons:) The ones with the pockets look so comfy and practical for every day, but the full skirted McCall's pattern is so has something special.

  3. I like all of the patterns. I am thinking either skirt would be pretty simple to make. Either way you will get experience, and when you are first starting out, that is the best thing to obtain.

  4. Those are beautiful patterns. I love the 40s/50s look of the second one especially.

  6. Thanks for you kind comments and feedback ladies :) I think that the McCall pattern is the winner, I was leaning towards that one myself. We'll have to see how it turns out, huh?
If the results are anywhere near decent than I'll post some pictures ;)

  7. I definately love the second one, and a skirt certainly sounds like the best place to start to me! Good luck:)

  8. Lovely patterns, I like them both, but am drawn to the second one more. Full skirts like that are a perpetual favourite of mine. Whichever one you go with, I wish you tons of luck with your sewing!

  9. I love using vintage patterns, they can be a little difficult but, the outcome is adorable. I love the blog, the graphics are great.
